Take-away is an ongoing exploration of independent migrant-run restaurants, celebrating their resilience and unique contributions to the cultural tapestry of London, particularly in South East London where I am based. As a freelance photographer, I find joy in exploring the city through my work, finding myself in new places and capturing the beauty of these establishments, focusing on their interiors and the stories they tell about their communities.
Throughout the lockdown, Take-away transformed into a captivating portrayal of the resilience amidst uncertainty of these independent businesses all around London. Some establishments had to close their doors permanently, unable to weather the storm, while others opted for take-away services to sustain themselves. The emptiness of public spaces became a stark contrast to the vibrant scenes within these restaurants, prompting reflection on the future of dining and social interaction.
Through Take-away, I not only document the evolving landscape of the hospitality industry but also gain a deeper understanding of the communities and neighbourhoods I explore.
