FORMAT27 Open Call Longlist

Fun & Games longlisted for FORMAT27

Fun & Games, my ongoing collaborative project with Jack Martyn Richardson and Irvin Funfairs, has been selected for the longlist of the FORMAT27 Open Call.

We have been developing the project since 2022, documenting Irvin Funfairs across different locations in London. Through photography, moving image and sound, the project explores play as a shared social experience, as well as memory, community and the changing spaces in which people come together.

The project combines digital and analogue photography with film, field recordings and oral histories gathered through our ongoing collaboration with the Irvin family. We are currently developing the work towards a publication and exhibition, bringing together the different photographic approaches and materials that have emerged through the project.

FORMAT27 received 948 project submissions from 837 people across 69 countries for this year's Open Call, which invited artists to respond to the theme of PLAY. The longlisted projects will now be reviewed by the FORMAT27 Advisory Jury, with the final selection to be announced later this year.

We are very pleased to see Fun & Games included in this year's longlist and grateful to the FORMAT team for recognising the project at this stage of its development.
